Zespri crop climbs

First New Zealand kiwifruit of the season is on the water and expected to arrive in Europe in the first week of May. The first vessels left on April 7 and are expected in Tarragona and Zeebrugge in two weeks’ time.

Total crop volumes are expected to be slightly up on last year, as the size profile of fruit is a little larger. Details for promotion in the UK are being finalised, but on the European continent, where Zespri’s fruit has enjoyed more success in recent years, the organisation will be continuing its extensive and high profile work.

“The Zespri Roadshow remains a strong asset to boost sales of Zespri kiwifruit,” said Jean-Louis Warnimont, marketing manager Europe at Zespri. “Promoter teams are on the move during the whole season, promoting and selling Zespri kiwifruit in shops, super- and hypermarkets and at events all over Europe.”
