Stockholm-based reefer specialist NYKCool is to strengthen its fleet by purchasing eight reefer vessels, covering bareboat chartering and time chartering.

NYK Reefers has purchased two reefer ships, Global Harvest and Crown Topaz, with 422,156 cubic foot and 547,693cbft load capacity respectively. The two ships will continue their employment in the NYKCool operation.

NYKCool has entered into a long-term bareboat deal with two reefer vessels, St. Lucia and Dominica, each of 644,331cbft load capacity, with continued operation in the NYKCool fleet.

In addition, NYKCool has secured two separate deals for two Jumbo-type reefer vessels for medium-term periods. Ice River and Ice Runner, each of 649,458cbft, have had their deal extended from the beginning of 2009. Chaiten, 673,748cbft, and Swan Chacabuco, 677,143cbft, will revert to the NYKCool operation in mid-2009.

“In order to secure long term tonnage and show our commitment to the specialised reefer shipping industry, I am pleased to inform that we have entered into several shipping ventures covering in total 8 specialised reefer vessels,” said Mikio Nakamura, president of NYK Reefers.
