Rising cases of illegal employment of migrant workers have prompted Encore Personnel to invest in a document checking system, enabling it to assess paperwork and flag up counterfeits, protecting all involved against fraud.

The Midlands-based recruiter supplies and manages high volume temporary staffing solutions to warehousing, production and engineering businesses throughout the UK and wished to seek a failsafe method of protecting clients, workers and agencies from unlawful use.

The same secure system is utilised by British banks and the success of the software has helped Encore to extend its service to many new clients concerned with illegal labour.

The system reads the unique ID of a travel document, providing 100 per cent guarantee of the legality of the document presented. A historical database of all travel documents and passports issued worldwide is held on a central system and, as the use becomes more widespread, it acts as a deterrent to illegal workers, knowing the system cannot be by-passed.

Managing director Greg Latham said: “Fraud is such a hot topic right now, we had to find a way to ensure all our workers conform to legal requirements and create a way of giving our clients and their customers complete peace of mind. They are absolutely assured that they are receiving a legal and ethical supply of labour.

“We ensure all labour provided have the correct working documentation and have been through the correct induction procedures. Implementing both systems has enabled Encore to offer clients the best possible service and encourages a more open and transparent approach to recruitment.”
