Security is becoming a major issue for companies involved in road haulage, according to delivery specialist Krone.

Despite increased prevention measures, commercial vehicle crime is escalating and the Road Haulage Association estimates it costs the industry in excess of £1 billion. Truck crime in the UK doubled in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year and load security has become a major factor in new trailer sales.

Jason Chipchase, UK sales manager for Krone Trailers, said: “We get questions all the time about the ability of the trailers to fight off thieves and illegal immigrants. One of the main reasons for being able to offer steel constructed trailers is that we recognised some customers needed extra strength to combat crime of all sorts.”
