Stena Line is set to cut jobs in the UK and the Netherlands after freight volume losses on its Harwich to Rotterdam, Europort route.

It has been decided to reduce the freight capacity on this route by the withdrawal of the Stena Transporter from 1 March onwards as a consequence of the current economic situation.

The relevant unions have been informed due to the subsequent jobs loesses for UK seafarers and Dutch shore personnel.

The withdrawal of the vessel means that the route goes back from a three to a two-vessel operation with adjusted sailing schedules to suit the market needs.

Every year around 1.8 million freight units are transported with Stena Line, the largest ferry operator in Europe and one of the largest in the world.

The company operates one of Europe’s most comprehensive route network, with 35 vessels on 18 strategically located routes in Scandinavia and the UK.

Between the UK and Holland Stena Line operates three routes (Hook of Holland to Harwich, Hook of Holland to Killingholme and Rotterdam to Harwich) and between the UK and Ireland Stena Line operates five routes (Stranraer to Belfast, Fleetwood to Larne, Holyhead to Dublin, Holyhead to Dun Laoghaire and Fishguard to Rosslare).
