Perishable logistics business LCL UK & Eire Ltd ceased trading last Friday, citing “difficult trading conditions and unsatisfactory financial performance”.

The decision follows a six-month review of the company’s operations by NYK Logistics, which owns LCL Sweden AB. The directors of the UK company have agreed to the process of creditors’ voluntary liquidation.

LCL UK & Eire was established in 2004 as a joint venture between LCL Sweden AB (a fully owned subsidiary of NYK) and George Hammond Plc, with shareholdings split 66.25 and 33.75 per cent respectively. In July 2006, the company acquired Dover-based forwarding company Meridian Shipping Services.

According to an LCL statement, it is anticipated that NYK Logistics UK Ltd may look to support the continuing LCL overseas activities and that M&B (Felixstowe) may support the former business of Meridian Shipping Services.

George Hammond Plc will have no involvement in activity going forward
