Marshalls strengthens logistics

SOR UK has announced further refrigerated trailer orders from the Lincolnshire-based fresh produce supplier Marshalls Bros (Butterwick).

Marshalls, part of the Produce World Group, took delivery of 10 high-specification trailers in the last quarter of 2008 and has now placed orders for a further 10 trailers for delivery throughout April and May of 2009.

Jason Burgess, managing director of Marshalls, said: “In the latter half of 2008 we took the opportunity to review our cool-chain trailer fleet and decided that we should take the opportunity to modernise and expand it. We previously hadn’t changed our trailer provider for more than 25 years and had tended to repeat-order our equipment. After assessing a number of manufacturers we chose SOR based on the quality of the product and its exemplary reputation.

“We are delighted with our new SORs; their implementation and subsequent service has been trouble-free and they have brought a fresh, contemporary look to our fleet.”

The trailers will join Marshalls' existing fleet and mark a significant reinvestment and expansion of its transport operation since becoming a part of Produce World.

The 20 tri-axle trailers are all being supplied with ThermoKing SLX-50 refrigeration units, that are in turn fitted with ThermoKing’s Produce Protection Plus (PPP) option.

PPP provides good conditions for fresh produce, giving extremely precise temperature control and delivering a continuous supply of moist and cool air.
