Londis Fresh initiative complete

Londis has continued its commitment to investing in its retailers with the completion of its major initiative, Londis Fresh.

An enhanced and extended fresh range, industry leading supply chain and capability are now in place, offering Londis retailers potential for sales growth via a one-stop symbol wholesale offer.

A brand new warehouse management system (WMS), fresh and flow through changes and enhancements form the biggest change in supply chain systems in Londis history, affecting more than 1,900 retailers, 70 suppliers and 350 employees.

The new WMS system has been fully rolled out across the three Londis retailer service centres (RSCs). A ‘pick to zero’ flow-through system allows stock to be picked to order and the old ‘stock held’ system has been phased out. The result is lower wastage and significantly improved code life across the new range, with the average product doubling and some lines even tripling.

Delivery is now an option six days a week via a brand new, more environment-friendly chill fleet.

Londis also recently announced all of the new vehicles have facilities for chilled merchandise including fresh meat, fruit and vegetables, traditional dairy, cooked meats and ready meal products.

A new contract is also available to Londis retailers who are part of the Brand Essentials scheme, guaranteeing access to the wider range of products and the optimum delivery service.

Sales of fresh produce have doubled since the system went live and retailers are already reaping the benefits of Londis fresh.

Steve Lucas, Londis sales director, said “This is a major milestone for Londis. We are delivering the new fresh initiative across the business and enabling our retail partners to order almost 100 per cent of the improved fresh offer through our RSCs. I’m delighted that Londis retailers are now equipped with the tools, the capability and delivery service to make the most of fresh food, the biggest growth area in the convenience sector.”
