Regional authorities in the eastern Spanish region of Valencia are ready to launch a handful of new late-season varieties of Clemenules and Murcott.

The cultivars have been bred with funding from the regional executive by its agri-research unit Ivia.

Nero will complement the Clemenules offer in October, Clemenverd will expand availability in January and unnamed IVIA-Man-19571 and Murta will extend the Clemenules and Murcott season into March and April respectively.

Registration of the varieties is complete, so sales and marketing of plant material to growers can begin next season.

Maritina Hernández, agriculture minister at the regional executive in Valencia, visited Ivia’s trials of the new fruits at the weekend. She said: “These new varieties are exceptionally productive. They maintain high levels of quality and taste.”
