Moacyr Saraiva Fernandes has handed over the top job at Ibraf to Jean-Paul Gayet, a specialist in administration and marketing in the fruit sector.

French-born Gayet took up the new office of president on Monday and plans to focus on communication with consumers, businesses and government. He said: “We need to know what consumers think, so companies can be prepared to adapt their products to buyers’ expectations and needs.”

Gayet paid tribute to the contribution of Fernandes in forging valuable partnerships for the sector, establishing new projects and raising the profile of the institute as the representative entity for the fruit sector. The new incumbent also made a commitment to continue these efforts to promote Brazilian fruit and fruit products worldwide. Gayet said: “We have to keep showing that Brazil is a reliable provider of fresh and processed fruits.” Gayet is also president of Associated Consultants for the Fruit Industry (ACF) and was chairman of a grower-exporter specialising in limes, melons and mangoes.
