Foods from Spain has launched its annual competition for primary schools in the UK giving youngsters the chance to win up to £2,000 in prize money and see their winning artwork on London buses.

Pupils in school years 3-6 in England, and the equivalent school years elsewhere in Great Britain, can enter their decorative collages on the subject of Healthy Eating with Fresh Fruit and Vegetables from Spain made using a variety of materials from magazines and comics, to dried fruit and nuts.

Second and third places will receive prizes of £1,000 and £500 respectively and year-group winners will each receive a Foods from Spain multimedia pack while runners up will receive pencils and all schools will earn a certificate from the

Spanish Embassy in London.

This will be the fifth year of the National Primary Schools Competition. Since its launch in 2007, primary school classes and art clubs have produced hundreds of collages. Last year’s competition attracted over 200 entries from schools around the country.

A selection of the best collages were displayed at the London International Gallery of Children’s Art (LIGCA). And an exhibition at LIGCA is also planned for this year’s winning collages.

Director of Foods from Spain, María José Sevilla said: “Foods from Spain has been thrilled by the interest in healthy eating generated by the National Primary Schools Competition. It has captured the imaginations of teachers, schoolchildren and parents throughout Britain, inspiring schools’ own healthy eating events and food festivals. We’re delighted to be launching the competition for the fifth time, and I’m looking forward to seeing what new creative ideas the children come up with this year”.

Entry packs have been sent to all primary schools in England, and can also be downloaded from www.foodsfromspain.co.uk. All primary schools in Great Britain are eligible to enter.
