Asda ramps up Indian grape deal

Asda will be doubling its Indian grape volumes this season thanks to the joint-venture Bharti-Walmart global supply deal.

A spokeswoman for the UK retailer said: “We currently work with around 150 growers in India and we have roughly doubled our volumes from 2011.

The main variety is Thompson Seedless and we will also source three or four containers of a black seedless variet Fantasy.”

First Indian grapes of the season arrived in Asda at the end of last month and supplies will continue until the end of May to breach the gap between the end of the Chilean campaign and the start of the Egyptian.
