Survey shows Brits still wrongly storing produce

There is still a great deal of misunderstand about which produce should and should not be stored in the fridge, according to Beko’s first National Fridge Audit.

Onions, garlic, potatoes, bananas, dried fruit and tinned vegetables all appear in the top 10 products that are unnecessarily refrigerated. And fruit came in at number seven in the list of out-of-date items that are left too long in the fridge.

One-fifth of respondents said they judged other Britons by the contents of their fridge, while one in eight would not visit a friend’s house for dinner if their fridge was messy or dirty.

“Our survey reveals that we are a nation who judge each other on the contents of our chiller - the fridge is the new status season,” said Beko’s Teresa Arbuckle. “So it is surprising to learn that so many of us are running on empty where our food is concerned.”
