We think it's fair to say Damian Fowler, MD of C&C Fruit, is a more than deserving candidate for the first-ever Bushel Box Fresh Produce Hero award.
Having been given the all-clear in February following treatment for throat cancer, Fowler, 39, will cycle 100km at next month's Ride for the Roses cancer charity event. Held in the Dutch town of Ede on 8 September, Fowler will be cycling - alongside fellow New Covent Garden Market trader Paul Murphy, director of Chef's Connection - less than a year on since first being diagnosed with the illness.
Currently training ahead of the big race, Fowler is both nervous and excited. He says: 'The ride is something one of our Dutch suppliers (QPI) has been doing for a while now and when they asked me last year I couldn't take part so I was determined to recover in time for this year's race!I see the ride as a big thank you for all the excellent treatment I have received.'
