A major European tomato firm has reached a notable milestone with its newest variety.

The one millionth seed of the Nunhems' NUN 09008 TOF* was sown earlier this week, andHarm Ammerlaan, of Nunhems, and Vreugdenhil, the grower which sowed the landmark seed,celebrated the occasion with a special cake.

A 'middle tomato-on-the-vine' variety for year-round production, the growing of NUN 08009 TOF* over 80ha is divided between growers mainly in the Netherlands and Belgium.

On 27 November, the official variety name will be announced during a special NUN 09008 TOF* event.

Nunhems is the vegetable seed business of Bayer CropScience.
