Tramlines at Balruddery Farm, James Hutton Institute

The James Hutton Institute is creating a new company to incorporate the activities of its current commercial subsidiaries Mylnefield Research Services (MRS) and Macaulay Scientific Consulting (MSC).

The move is aimed at strengthening the commercial interests of the institute and building on the growing success of the two existing subsidiaries, according to the organisation.

No name has yet been finalised for the new subsidiary, with details expected to be ironed out over the coming months ahead of a possible opening early in 2015.

A transition board, drawing membership from the existing boards of the James Hutton Institute, MRS and MSC, will oversee the creation of the new company and transfer of activities from the existing companies.

“It’s an exciting time for the James Hutton Institute as we focus our attention on developing sustainable income streams to support further investment in delivering excellent science that meets the needs of our stakeholders,” said Professor Iain Gordon, chief executive of the James Hutton Institute.

“Through MRS and MSC we already have an excellent track record of translating science into products and services that industry needs and the creation of the new commercial company will further strengthen our commercial interests and enable us to fully exploit our wide-ranging expertise.”
