Exotic vegetable producer Barfoots of Botley has this week launched itsexclusive British grown ʻCrown Jewelʼ variety of asparagus through its GrownWith Love product range.
Ocado will stock the line exclusively online, alongside the existing Grown WithLove products, which include sweet potato, butternut squash and sweetcorn.
The Crown Jewel variety promises a sweeter flavour, and the product hasbeen grown at Barfootsʼ farms across the South West, where the growingconditions are ideal.
James Meers, commercial manager at Barfoots, said:“With the British Asparagus season well underway, weʼre pleased to offer analternative variety to customers.
'The Crown Jewel is an exciting addition to our Grown With Love range ofproduce, which has been grown and selected with a great deal of care toprovide a quality offering to consumers.
'After a difficult period during the recent floods, the asparagus produced istestament to the hard work put in by the growers to ensure a high quality crop.'
The product is priced at £2.99 per 200g pack.
