Indian onions

Indian fresh fruit and vegetable production is believed to have risen over the 2013/14 fiscal year (ending 30 June), according to the Business Standard.

Citing figures released by India’s Agricultural Ministry, the report suggested overall horticulture production climbed 4 per cent to 280.70m tonnes, up from 268.84m tonnes in fiscal 2012/13.

Vegetable production is estimated to have risen from 162m tonnes in 2012/13 to 170m tonnes in 2013/14.

Fruit production also grew marginally from 81.28m tonnes in 2012/13 to 84.41m tonnes in 2013/14.

Mango remains the most commonly produced fruit in India, with production estimated at 18.67m tonnes in 2013/14, while potato production topped 46m tonnes to be the leading vegetable line.
