The first-ever woman to win a Lincoln chilli-eating competition after beating 10 competitors has said she spent years 'building up tolerance' to the heat.

Paula Turzanski, from Lincoln, toldlocal newspaper theLincolnshire Echothat she gets a 'buzz' from hot food, and credited her win to sampling the hottest chillis before the contest.

The Clash of the Titans competition, which took place at Lincoln’s St Marks Square last week, was part of the region’s first chilli festival, the paper reported.

“I'm always eating hot food, it's like an addiction because it releases endorphines into the brain and gives you a massive buzz.”

'A woman has never won it before and I won it for the girls,' Turzanski told the paper.

The festival hosted 17 stalls selling curries, sauces, plants and seeds to visitors, along with chilli beers and cocktails.
