Phil Hudson - NFU

Phil Hudson

Philip Hudson, the head of food and farming at the National Farmers Union, is to leave the organisation.

Hudson has been at the union for almost 25 years in a variety of roles that included chief horticultural adviser. He does not have another position lined up but told FPJ he will be pursuing other projects and interests.

It is understood no replacement has yet been appointed to his role.

A politics and geography graduate from the University of Central Lancashire, Hudson joined the NFU in 1990, going on to cover roles including being a policy adviser in the union's West Midlands branch, working on oils, proteins and combinable crops, and later becoming first chief dairy and then chief horticultural adviser.

'It's been a long chapter in my life and I've got many fond memories of the NFU and the people that work here,' he said. 'They're a great bunch, and the agriculture industry is safe in their hands.'

Among his achievements Hudson listed a campaign that led to an increase in the number of seasonal workers available to growers, helping set up a national dairy advisory scheme and his role in the development of the Red Tractor.
