Ex-footballer Faustino Asprilla is putting his name to a new, fruit-flavoured product.

The product in question? A line of condoms.

“Some friends of mine in Medellin came up with the idea, and I thought it would be fun to help out,' the retired Colombian, Parma and Newcastle United strikertold Bogota’s Radio La FM.

As for what the flavours might be, Asprilla said: “Guava! I’ve always loved guava, because we had a tree outside my house growing up.”

Asprilla, 44, did not tell the station when the brand would be on the market, but noted that the condom initiative was more about responsibility than being a money-making venture.

“The main goal for me, really, is to support a campaign to prevent AIDS and teen pregnancies, with a line of condoms”, he said.
