Produce World charity bike ride

Produce World: Cycling for charity

Vegetable giant Produce World aims to raise £4,000 for two charities after senior directors completed a 130-mile sponsored bike ride.

The ride, which took place on 3 to 4 October, has so far raised over £2,000 for charities Sunfield Children’s home and the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.

The six-strong team of James Barker, Jim Field, Nick French, Wayne Burbidge, Rob Edwards and Phil Jones cycled between Produce World sites at Isleham in Cambridgeshire, to Butterwick in Lincolnshire. They were joined by fitness-challenge fanatic and agricultural director Andrew Burgess.

Sunfield Children’s home supports young people with complex learning needs, and Thorpe Hall Hospice provides a specialist palliative care service.

Finance director, Phil Jones, said the company regularly encourages team building events. “To join together and raise money for two great charities makes all the training well worthwhile. Our target before the race was £4,000 and we are delighted to have raised just over £2,100 so far for such good causes,” he said.

The cycle ride follows a busy year of car washes, sky dives and charity walks such as the Three Peaks challenge in which £5,000 was raised for a local charity.
