Bramley apples

Bramley Apple Week began on Monday (2 February) with a Twitter party that generated 8.5 million impressions, created by 1,095 Twitter mentions.

The hashtag #BramleyApples trended in the UK at the number three spot on that day – only beaten by #DeadlineDay (professional football's player transfer deadline) and #AskTheLeaders (related to political interrogation).

Tweets were contributed by retailers, suppliers and manufacturers including Tesco, Good Housekeeping, Fresh Direct and Mr Kipling.

Additionally, Defra secretary of state, Liz Truss, spoke about the wonderful cooking properties of Bramley apples in the House of Commons last week.

Adrian Barlow, chairman of the Bramley Campaign, said: “Coverage of the new recipes and Bramley Apple Week to date has been outstanding and we expect ever-increasing coverage and engagement with consumers as the week progresses.

'This should give a boost to sales in all market sectors and cause greater usage of Bramley in home cooking, catering outlets and in manufacturing. Sales to multiple retailers are currently 28 per cent higher in volume than last season and we hope to achieve an even greater increase.'
