A young care worker feared she might die from pain after being stung by a scorpion which she found inside a pack of bananas from Tesco.

Mail Online has reported that Kita Fitton, 20, was making packed lunches for the vulnerable young men she looks after when she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her finger.

She quickly took her hand out of the packet and the scorpion allegedly fell out, with its sting still embedded in her skin leaving her unable to feel anything.

Doctors were allegedly so shocked by the injury that they initially thought she was joking and, according to Fitton, eventually decided that there was nothing they could do except give her pain medication.

Tesco reportedly initially offered Fitton a refund on the price of the bananas, but the company has now vowed to investigate the incident which took place earlier this month.

The care worker from Crayford in Kent told Mail Online: 'I'm a brave person, but it was really scary. It felt like a bee sting but at least 40 times worse. The pain was extortionate - it was so painful, I thought I was going to die at one point. It's manageable now but I'm going to go back to hospital if it stays numb like this.

'After complaining to Tesco, someone came to collect the packaging for investigation and offered to refund the 59p or whatever it was, which I found a bit insulting. Imagine if children had come into contact with it, it could have been so much worse.'

A spokesperson for Tesco said: 'We set ourselves the highest standards for the quality of our produce. Our customer service team is investigating this enquiry and will update our customer as soon as possible.'
