Jersey Royals potatoes

A potato farmer is considering installing CCTV to deter vandals after a number of honesty boxes were set alight.

States of Jersey Police said three fires had been reported and it was aware of a 'couple others' posted on social media, yet to be reported.

The farmer, Powell Le Feuvre said he was 'shocked' and 'disappointed' to find the latest burnt wooden box.

People are asked to put money in the honesty boxes in return for Jersey Royal potatoes.

Le Feuvre, who owns Le Feuvre Farm, said: 'We are considering investing in some CCTV equipment or to move the box into a more built-up area which may deter vandals. We will not stop running the boxes.

'We spent hours replacing the box with a new one which took some time.We haven't had an arson attack before. We have had the same box broken into by crowbar, which was when we stopped keeping stock and money overnight in the boxes.'

States of Jersey Police, which said the fires had happened in the last week (w/c 20 July), said: 'We take all reports of this nature seriously and will investigate cases thoroughly. We would encourage victims of any crime to come forward and report it.'
