Wolverhampton Hospital is set to open a fruit and veg market stall

Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital has opened a new fruit and veg stall in a bid to give staff, patients and visitors healthier eating options

The Mr Green Grocer market stall opened at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust yesterday (27 July)after the trust teamed up with the family-run local business which already operates across the Midlands.

Owner, Aaron Stancliffe, said: 'We are proud to provide an array of fresh fruit and vegetables at a stall located at the New Cross Hospital.

'We are passionate about fresh produce and wanted to be actively involved in helping the area combat obesity and giving staff, patients and visitors healthier options.

“It is all about providing something healthy and good for you. It is not always easy to get some of your five a day when at work - so this can certainly help.”

Gwen Nuttall, chief operating officer at the hospital trust, said: 'We already have outlets that provide healthy options but this is taking things another step further.

“It is part of our job to promote healthy living to the people of Wolverhampton and the surrounding region and by introducing Mr Green Grocer to the Trust we are talking the talk on this one.

'We are excited about the stall and sure it will prove popular with staff, patients and visitors.”

Last year it was reported almost 70 per cent of adults in Wolverhampton were overweight or obese – leading to the launch of a new campaign aiming to tackle the ‘ticking time bomb’ of the city’s obesity crisis.
