Andrew Lazenby

Farmcare has appointed the former head of commercial operations for Waitrose's farming operations as its new operations director.

Andrew Lazenby brings extensive experience to the role at Farmcare - he has had a 20-year career in the food and farming sector, including strategic roles that have spanned four continents: UK, Europe, the US, Africa and Australia.

In his previous role as head of commercial for Waitrose Farm, which encompasses 15 businesses across a 4,000 acre estate, Lazenby's achievements during his four years in the business apparently included leading an initiative to design and install a rapeseed oil factory, which, within two years, was producing a million bottles of oil per annum.

Lazenby’s role at Farmcare will include leading and managing operations and ensuring that information is shared across the business.

As Britain’s largest farming organisation - its land assets are second only in size to those of the National Trust - Farmcare owns and manages farms across a wide geographical footprint: from Scotland to Kent.

Lazenby said: 'I’m very excited to be joining Farmcare during a period of transition. There are huge opportunities for the business: including its proactive approach to technology and the efficiencies that this can drive.

'I believe farming will go full cycle - back to closed-loop agriculture, which sees everything done on the farm to improve the land for future generations. We’re helping British buy British.

'Growing up in north Lincolnshire, I was aware of Farmcare from a young age. Its constant evolution is fascinating, and I now see the organisation as the biggest and best business in agriculture. The opportunity to help shape Farmcare, which is unique in its structure and mix of primary agriculture and corporate elements, was too good to miss.'

Richard Quinn, CEO, said: 'I’m delighted with this key appointment. Andrew’s mix of experience, strategic vision and intellect are a perfect fit for Farmcare. The appointment of an operations director of this calibre is an important step to ensure we stay on target to hit the objectives we’ve laid out in Farmcare’s First Mile strategy.'
