Spanish Citrus

A unique Spanish Citrus juice bar will be unveiled in London's OldSpitalfields market tomorrow (25 November).

It is being staged by AMT, which is part of the Muñoz group, as the UKʼs leading citrus specialist celebrates the start of the Spanish Citrus season 2015 with Tesco.

Tesco citrus buyer, Emma Martin, said:“We are once again delighted to be welcoming Spanish citrus to Tesco storesnationwide. Over the coming weeks we will be showcasing the very best thecountry has to offer.

'Working with AMT, we have made the season one of the standout occasionsin the fresh calendar and this year will once again demonstrate ourcommitment to offering the best produce for our customers.

'To help showcase the quality from Spain, Tesco and AMT have been workingclosely with their growers to cut the lead-time from harvest to shelf by 25 per cent.

'These initiatives are vital to continue to improve the quality for the customerand reduce the overall food waste within our supply chain.'

The juice baris expected to see tens of thousands ofLondoners exposed to the products, and receiving a 'unique taste of Spain'.

Kantar Worldpanel data has revealed that citrus fruit spend in the UK has increased by£2.2 million, and is now worth £726m (52 weeks to October 2015).

Spanish citrus accounts for over 60 per cent of the total UK market sales, and Spain is nowthe largest importer of citrus fruit to the UK.

AMT (formed in 2013) is a dedicated citrus supplier to the Tesco business.
