Will Sibley

Will Sibley has joined specialist vegetable supplier George Thompson as a non-executive director.

Sibley, a well-known nurseryman who is a former Master of the Worshipful Company of Fruiterers, has been credited with being instrumental in the development of Braeburn and apricots as major UK success stories.

He has previously been a trustee of Borough Market and chairman of East Malling Trust, and is currently on the board of the Horticulture Innovation Trust and is a trustee of the National Fruit Collections Trust.

George Thompson, a third-generation farming business speclising in supplying the wholesale and foodservice sectors, is a market leader in the oriental crop sector, with the company diversifying into orchard production in recent years under the Tendring Fruit banner.

Next year the firm plans to expand its range of vegetable products, grown in partnership with Fresca in the UK's largest commercial aquaponics installation by Clearwater Farms.

“I’m delighted to welcome Will into the company - his experience and wisdom will be of enormous value as we look to secure a successful, sustainable future for the business in challenging times,' said managing director Peter Thompson.

'Will shares our excitement as we expand into new sectors and work with leading organisations throughout the industry. Will’s appointment is a signal of our ambition and intent to continue to innovate across the vegetable, fruit, protected and aquaculture sectors.”
