Adrian Barlow

Longstanding English Apples & Pears (EAP) chief executive Adrian Barlow is to step down this summer.

Barlow, who will also relinquish his positions as chairman of the Bramley campaign and CEO of the Dessert campaign, will retire in August.

It is understood Barlow, who turns 75 this year, wishes to retire while he still remains physically active. He has, however, accepted the position of chairman of EAP with immediate effect, to help with the transition for his successor.

The board of EAP – made up of leading top-fruit growers Phil Acock, Charles Atkins, Nigel Bardsley, Tony Frankham, Ross Goatham, Robert Hinge, Carmella Meyer and John Portass – said: “Although there will be suitable opportunities nearer to his retirement to thank him for all that he has achieved, at this time the board would like to express their appreciation to Adrian for his work on behalf of growers and others, which has made such a considerable contribution to the renaissance of the English industry.”

Recruitment of Barlow’s successor has already begun, but no timescale has been set on when his replacement will start.
