McDonald’s is trying a new way to boost potato consumption, and has launched chocolate-covered French fries.

Customers at the fast food chain will get a choice of chocolate with cacao flavour and white milk chocolate to pour over their chips.

McDonald's -which has recently been on a marketing drive in the UK to promote its sourcing credentials - said that customers can enjoy the McChoco Potato as a side dish or a dessert.

For now, the McChoco Potato will only be in Japan, with a country-wide rollout beginning next week (w/c 25 January).

'The combination creates a wonderful salty and sweet harmonious taste,' a McDonald's spokesperson said.
