APS Salads has purchased the North Bank Growers tomato business from The Greenery.

The sale follows on from Cornerways Nursery severing ties with The Greenery at the end of last year by signing a five-year agreement with Thanet Earth for the marketing of its produce.

APS, meanwhile, continues to build up its portfolio of businesses, as this latest acquisition follows on the heels of 2015's purchase of Wight Salads from Vitacress.

APS is now believed to be the UK's biggest tomato grower.

The Greenery took control of North Bank Growers in 2012. The latter business was formerly known by the name John Baarda.

A spokesperson for The Greenery told Dutch news website GF Actueel that the company is currently sourcing other local producers in the UK to serve the British market.
