Jeremy Corbyn: In support of more salad Credit Flickr/70023venus2009

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has lent his support to healthy diets and the fresh produce industry alike by using his appearance at the British Kebab Awards to urge people to eat more salad.

He was presenting the Outstanding Contribution to the British Kebab Industry award at the event in central London last night, where his unexpected presence caused a stir due to his lifelong vegetarianism.

He said: “When people buy kebabs, I want them to havesalad on top, so they can have the balanced diet we all need.”

He described himself as “vegetarian aficionado of kebab shops” and said he hoped he was still welcome at kebab shops. “I’m always very pleased whenever I get to any kebab shop to enjoy a good falafel,” he told the audience.
