Nisa's Heritage fresh produce range

Nisa Retail has launched a new wholesale fresh produce service in an attempt to regain market share amid the major supermarkets' price war.

The c-store giant says the venture is already driving increased sales for the business and arming its retailers with a competitive fresh produce offer to take on the market.

Launched on 7 March 2016, the initiative has already seen volume increases on fresh produce of 17 per cent. In addition the new service has opened the door to Nisa fresh produce for 65 new members who had previously not taken it.

Nisa’s trading director, Stewart Smith, said: 'With fresh produce in the convenience supply chain generally supplied in smaller quantities, getting a competitive price which allows for a healthy margin for the retailer can be difficult. But through our new wholesale fresh produce initiative, Nisa has given its members the opportunity to purchase a selection of loose produce in larger quantities, improving cost efficiency and profit margin in the process.'

Smith added: “As a business we’ve been in a period of turnaround, which is always challenging, but it’s a testament to the hard work of the team at Nisa’s member support centre and of our desire to deliver the best deals we can to our members, that we have been able to roll out this wholesale fresh produce service.

“The intention is to give our members a convenient and efficient way to purchase fresh produce, ordered online and delivered to their door, which offer sector leading prices and a healthy profit margin, enabling them to perform competitively in a marketplace where the discounters and multiples are chasing the lowest price.”

Nisa supports over 1,300 local retailers and 3,000 stores across the UK. Some operate under the Nisa brand and others under their own names. Nisa supplies the stock they need and the retail support that helps them to grow their business.
