Sainsbury's has remained tight-lipped about what the future holds for its foray into the discount retail arena with Netto.

The report accompanying the release of its annual accountsnoted that Sainsbury's 'will now review the performance of the business in light of the overall market'.

It said the retailer will report on its plans for Netto in November 2016.

The relaunched Netto chain, which is part of a JV with Danish retailer Dansk Supermarked, currently has 15 stores in operation, most of which are in the north of England.

At the relaunch of the chain in 2014, Sainsbury's said that if the trial was successful, there were plans to roll-out the new format across the rest of the UK.

Since then, Aldi and Lidl have continued to make impressive market share gains.
