Covent Garden Market Authority (CGMA) has named director of Eden Shopping Centre Daniel Tomkinson as its new chief executive and replacement for Jan Lloyd.

Tomkinson, who is also chair of the local business improvement district, will take over the lead for the market’s ongoing redevelopment project.

In his role as centre director at the shopping centre, Tomkinson has overseen several refurbishments at the shopping centre that increased its value and were carried out while the centre continued to trade, CGMA said. Located at High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, Eden has 127 shops across both restaurants and leisure, and serves over 13.5 million customers a year.

He has also worked for British Airways, where he managed airport retailing in the UK and US and supervised improvements to the logistics and car parking businesses at Heathrow Airport.

He will take over from Lloyd, who has been at CGMA for over 10 years, in August of this year.

CGMA chair Pam Alexander said: “I am delighted to welcome Daniel to CGMA. He brings many years of experience in both the property and logistics sectors, which will be of great value to ourselves, our tenants and our stakeholders and neighbours.

“The redevelopment of NCGM is a major project and one of the three iconic elements that will transform Nine Elms. Over the seven years it will take to deliver this project we intend to become London’s most important Food Quarter. Daniel is well placed to lead us on the next stage of that journey.

“I would like to record my sincere thanks to Jan Lloyd who is leaving after ten challenging years at CGMA. Jan has successfully brought about a new future for NCGM at one of the most significant periods in the market’s history. It is because of her tenacity that we are now on site with the redevelopment. On behalf of the whole CGMA Board I thank her and wish her well in the next stage of her career.”

Tomkinson said: “New Covent Garden Market plays a vital role in London’s hospitality and foodservice sectors. Its redevelopment is one of the most exciting projects in London and I look forward to shaping the future of the capital’s most important food destination.”
