Barfoots of Botley owner Peter Barfoot has suffered serious injuries in a polo accident.

Barfoot, who is chairman of the Cowdray Park Polo Club in West Sussex, is understood to have fallen from his horse during a match on Saturday 16 July.

He was airlifted to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, where he remains for treatment.

Barfoots managing director Julian Marks told FPJ that Barfoot had suffered head and other injuries, adding that he faces a long period of recovery. However he stressed his condition is not life-threatening, and he is “receiving the best of care and support from his family and medical team.”

Barfoot’s daughter Jo-Anne posted a picture on Instagram of her father competing just before the accident occurred. She wrote: “Such a talented father, fine sportsman, the final moments before the accident captured by my dear sister @victoriarosebarfoot… We are all praying for his recovery.”

Marks added: “The thoughts of everyone in the company are with Peter, who would be determined that it was business as usual and there should be no disruption to supply, which the whole Barfoots team is committed to.”
