Port of Dover

George Hammond PLC has been operating Dover's cargo terminal since 1990

The Port of Dover and shipping agency George Hammond PLC have agreed to integrate further in a bid to ensure the long-term success of Dover’s cargo business.

George Hammond PLC, which developed the general cargo business in Dover over 50 years ago, has operated the cargo terminal since its inception in 1990.

In ongoing talks between the company and the port, both parties have identified that the surest way to ensure long-term customer loyalty is to integrate the Port Services Division of George Hammond PLC into the wider port business.

The parties have signed heads of terms for the transaction and are currently negotiating the detailed legal agreement before making the transfer.

The move comes at a time of renewal at the port, which is being redeveloped under the Dover Western Docks Revival project. As part of the programme, Dover’s cargo business will be relocated to a new cargo terminal and distribution centre.

A new marina and a host of waterside shops, bars and restaurants are also planned.
