Compass Group UK & Ireland was rewarded for its 'Environment Toolkit' activity pack

The UK’s largest food and support services provider Compass Group UK & Ireland has been rewarded for its environmentally-friendly approach.

The company was awarded the international Green Apple Award for Environment Best Practice by eco-group The Green Organisation in recognition of its revamped approach to ensuring compliance to its Environmental Management System.

Compass Group UK & Ireland has also created a new ‘Environment Toolkit’ of activities to help staff improve their understanding and raise awareness of different environmental issues.

Compass has introduced the activity pack to nearly 9,000 sites since it was launched in January 2015, with some 82 per cent of sites saying they found the toolkit useful in a satisfaction survey.

Compass environment manager Celena Fernandez said: “A lot or preparation and background work went into creating the Environment Toolkit so for it to be recognised in such a way is fantastic.

“However, our work doesn’t stop here. We will continue to improve the Toolkit every year to keep our sites up to date with the latest information as we seek to deliver best practice across the business”

Martin Smith, CEO of external auditor Alcumus, added: “Compass have shown their commitment to not only retaining but continuously improving their environmental performance year on year.”

Compass Group UK & Ireland will be presented with the Green Apple Award at Parliament on 11 November.

The firm’s operations span more than 15,000 sites and include workplaces, famous sports and leisure venues, schools, hospitals and oil rigs.
