Red Tractor Week

NFU members will promote the Red Tractor standard at supermarkets across the UK

NFU members will next week (12-18 September) be taking to supermarkets up and down the country to promote its Red Tractor message to consumers.

As it did in 2015, this year’s Red Tractor Week will feature a series of half-day events at supermarkets, with farmers talking about British produce and encouraging shoppers to purchase products with the Red Tractor logo.

The Red Tractor standard, the largest food assurance scheme in the UK, was launched by British food regulator Assured Food Standards and the NFU in 2000 to ensure high standards in traceability, environmental protection, food safety and hygiene and animal welfare standards in British produce.

NFU Deputy President Minette Batters said: “Farmers and growers are rightly extremely proud of the work they do and the high quality food they produce.

“We have a great story to tell. The food and farming sector provides jobs to some 3.9 million people and combined contributes to the economy a massive £108 billion.
”

He added: “The Red Tractor Assurance Scheme means that shoppers can trace their food from farm to fork.”

Backed by farmer and Countryfile presenter Adam Henson, the promotional campaign will mark the launch of the biggest on-pack promotion of Red Tractor products to date, with promotional stickers on products including meat, poultry, dairy, cereals, fruit and vegetables.

Farmers and shoppers can get involved on social media by using the GreatBritishFood2016 hashtag.
