Rick Fletcher, Freshtime ethical trade officer

Prepared produce firm Freshtime has hired Richard Fletcher for the new position of ethical trade officer.

Fletcher, who previously worked as quality and compliance manager at quilt and pillow maker Fogarty, will report into the company’s head of CSR Mel Miles at its Boston site.

In November, he will undertake a five-day training course to become a quality social systems auditor, to help him work more closely with supplier.

“It’s clear that Freshtime wholeheartedly believes in social compliance, which really appealed to me,” said Fletcher. “An opportunity like this is rare, especially in this area, and the fact that Freshtime is actively seeking to continue to develop and remain leaders in the food industry is so refreshing.”

Freshtime managing director Mark Newton said: “We’re committed to doing the right thing in everything we do as a company and like to set an example to all of our partners and suppliers, to ensure they share the same beliefs and values.”

Fletcher added: “I only joined the company a few weeks ago and I have already been out meeting and talking to suppliers to understand the challenges they face.

“I’m really hoping to make my mark within the company and the nature of the job offers the chance to build a best-in-class compliance system.”
