Waitrose says Happy Christmas wth cauliflower

Waitrose is aiming to capitalise on the current trend for cauliflower by launching a Romanesco Cauliflower Christmas Tree.

Designed as an edible Christmas tree, the brassica comes with pomegranate seeds to use as decorations, and a star anise for the top.

It should be roasted in the oven before being drizzled with its orange dressing, said Waitrose executive chef, Jonathan Moore. “Vegetables never looked so good,” he added.

Waitrose’s Romanesco seasonal treat is being sold at £3.49 for 300g.

The news comes as cauliflowers look set to become the latest food trend – Mail Online has eported that the Hard Rock Café is offering deep-fried cauliflower ‘wings’ throughout October, while Pizza Express is launching a cauliflower and cheese pizza.

Other NPD at retailers include cauliflower rice, cauliflower cous cous and cauliflower steaks.
