Zespri SunGold kiwifruit has been awarded a Gold Q mark in the fresh unprepared fruit category at the Quality Food Awards 2016.
Held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on 10 November, Zespri won against competition from multiple retailers M&S and Aldi with judges praising the quality, flavour and the story behind the SunGold product.
Helen Lyons, of events organiser Metropolis Business Media, said: “Now in its 37th year, these prestigious awards are perfect for small and large producers alike.
“What sets us apart is the impartiality and rigour of the judging process, which rightly sits at the heart of everything we do - it means people buying products with the Q Mark know they are choosing the best in the market.”
Market manager for Zespri in the UK and Ireland, Jayne Chamberlain, said: “We were very confident that the judges would recognise the truly special qualities of Zespri SunGold and we are delighted to have won the Gold Q award for best Fresh Fruit.
