A cookery competition for children celebrating the British pea has launched for the second year running with a new category and sponsor.

The Yes Peas! campaign is a nation wide cooking competition to find the country’s next top chefs. Entrants are challenged to develop a healthy recipe using British peas as the main ingredient.

Waitrose supermarket continues to sponsor the competition category for primary school children of any age up to year six. Cookware supplierProCook has joined the campaign to sponsor a new category for secondary school children in year seven to eight. Winners are awarded £500 in cooking equipment for their school.

A panel of judges including celebrity chef Rachel Green, Waitrose frozen food buying manager Michael Simpson-Jones, head of brand at ProCook Sarah Savery-Smith, along with representatives from Birds Eye and Pinguin Foods, will shortlist five Young Pea Chefs from each category to go through to the final.

Green said: “With over 100 entries into last year’s competition, we are hoping to encourage even more young cooks to get involved. This year we want to see secondary school pupils get their creative chefs hats on too.”
