Blackcurrant & Liquorice sorbet

Beckleberry's Liquorice and Blackcurrant sorbet

Ice cream producer Beckleberry’s is to launch a new blackcurrant and liquorice sorbet in response to the growing demand for healthy yet indulgent desserts.

The new flavour explores blackcurrants as a ‘superfood’ ingredient that is high in potassium, iron and antioxidants – health benefits that aren’t diminished when frozen, the company said.

“We’ve always believed that when it comes to premium-tier desserts indulgence and health needn’t be mutually exclusive,” said Beckleberry’s MD Peter Craig. “We’ve always focused on more intense, adult-orientated palates (Tarragon & Passion Fruit, Sour Cherry & Amaretto and Blackcurrant & Kirsch) that preclude the need for unappetizing synthetic flavours.

“Of course we don’t always get it right. Thankfully Curried Pineapple and Parsnip & Balsamic Vinegar never made it beyond our new flavour facility, and yet despite the occasional setback we’ve never lost our appetite to champion bold (occasionally improbable) flavour liaisons.”

Based in north east England, Beckleberry’s primary customers are premium hotels, restaurants and the hospitality sector, but it is also developing exports to Spain and North America, as well as an airline catering business.
