Avocado has been the best-selling line in Waitrose's premium own-label range, the supermarket has revealed.

On the anniversary of the introduction of its Waitrose 1 top-tier line, the retailer said that its Extra Large Avocados, priced at £1.89 each, were its best seller. A 225g pack of Speciality Raspberries, at £4, also made the top 10.

Waitrose 1 launched with over 500 products, increasing to over 700 with seasonal additions throughout the course of the year. It was its biggest own-brand launch since the Essential range was introduced in 2009.

A further 60 new products are being lined up for the coming months, including Mild Pea Shoots and Edible Flowers, at £1.50 for 60g. Grown in Lincolnshire, the seasonal bagged salad features sweet buttery red butterhead lettuce accompanied by sorrel, which is described as boasting 'citrus notes, pea shoots, aromatic coriander and beautiful viola flowers.'

Clare Bartlett, Waitrose 1 brand manager, said: 'Waitrose 1 has seen the introduction of some great trend-led products and it’s been a real hit. From Colombian coffee, beautiful salads to Indian Ocean Dark Chocolate, this range has been developed using some the best ingredients for our customers. We are continuing to bring product innovation to the range with an additional 60 product launches this year.'
