Industry veteran Phil Scarlett has passed away following a battle with cancer.

Scarlett, 65, died on Tuesday 19 September, and was most recently known for co-organising the UK Produce Industry Fair, which took place in Peterborough last week.

He had a distinguished business career which included working as retail director at John Menzies and later going on to become president of the South Holland Chamber of Commerce. His other career roles included trading director at Total Home Entertainment, managing director at tech start-up TBP and a senior partner at management consultancy The Edge.

In his Chamber of Commerce role and working in a major produce area, Scarlett was credited with helping improve performance and service levels in numerous businesses. He also created the local Chamber of Commerce business awards, was involved with the agri-food forums and food development projects with Lincolnshire University, as well as lobbying Number 10 to improve transport links to and from the South Holland area.

Only last week Scarlett received a lifetime achievement award in South Holland.

His business partner at the UK Produce Industry Fair, Trevor Hyde, said: 'Phil will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The directors of PIF UK send their sincere condolences to his family.'
