asparagus

Forget trendy cocktail bars and fashion boutiques, the pop-up we’ve all been waiting for, really, is a bit more traditional.

Next week promotional body British Asparagus will be hosting a pop-up at Boxpark in Shoreditch with over 7,000 bundles of the seasonal vegetable set to be handed out to commuters.

From Monday 21 May to Wednesday 23 May commuters and passers-by will be given free bundles of asparagus from growers across the country, with recipe cards provided for cooking inspiration.

Members of the public will also have the chance to sample both cooked and raw asparagus at The Green next to Boxpark’s flagship site by Shoreditch station.

The team will be cooking up the cream of the eight-week crop on the BBQ, handing out grilled spears to people on their lunch break.

With just over five weeks left of the short season, it is hoped the recent warm weather will produce a bountiful harvest through until the end of the campaign on midsummer’s day.

The vegetable has also been boosted by the news that British asparagus will once again feature on the royal wedding menu.
