Bakkavor has sold prepared meal specialist Anglia Crown in a management buyout.

Anglia Crown provides frozen and chilled meals to hospitals and care homes. It describes its mission as'to promote the wellbeing and healthy recovery of patients in hospital and residents in care, through our tasty and balanced prepared meals.'

Bakkavor said Anglia Crown, which is understood to have been sold to managing director Paul Howell and former head of finance Andrew Lone, was deemed non-core to the group, with revenues representing less than one per cent of its total sales.

In its latest accounts, for the period from 27 December 2015 to 31 December 2016, Anglia Crown posted a turnover of £16.1m, but made a £985,000 pre-tax loss.
