Spanish stonefruit endured a significant year-on-year fall in volumes for the January-November period of 2018

Spanish fresh produce exports fell 2 per cent in volume and 9 per cent in value through the January-November period of 2018, according to figures released by Fepex and put together by the country's Department of Customs and Special taxes.

Total fruit and vegetable exports from Spain for the eleven-month period came to 11m tonnes in volume, the report showed, with a value of €11.5bn.

The year-on-year decline in fruit exports stood at 6 per cent in volume and 7 per cent in value, down to 6.3m tonnes and €6.89bn respectively.

According to Fepex, this was caused by a decline in a wide range of categories such as citrus, stonefruit and melons, while strawberry exports also declined.

For vegetables, export volumes climbed 3.5 per cent to 4.7m tonnes, although value declined sharply, dropping 12 per cent to €4.6bn.
